"Photoshop®" with guest instructor Rick Simonson

Course description

Adobe Photoshop is considered to be the industry standard image editing software. Even though its original and primary function is in editing photographs, it's a widely-used program for creating illustrations. In this course we will focus on how Photoshop can be used by the scientific illustrator for creating technically accurate renderings of scientific subjects. Students will learn the fundamentals of using Photoshop and how to use Photoshop for creating scientific illustrations.

Pre-requisites: basic traditional drawing experience

Rick Simonson is the Founder and President of Science Lab

Studios, Inc. With over 20 years of experience as a professional

scientific illustrator, he specializes in finding creative solutions to

visual problems within the scientific and technical industries.
Rick's work has been published in science magazines, research

journals, textbooks, laboratory and technical manuals, and featured

in gallery exhibits. He has over two decades of university

teaching and research experience. 

Equipment requirements

Computer (Mac or Windows) with camera and capable of running Photoshop
Zoom
Adobe Photoshop
Graphics tablet-any size pressure sensitive tablet (example: Wacom Intuos)
